Bangkok is always worth a visit!🇹🇭

Bangkok: City of Extremes

Bangkok A City – Between Chaos, Curry and Charm 🛺 🚖

Bangkok isn't a city for half measures. You either love it—or you can't last three days there. I hear that all the time, and honestly, I can understand it to some extent. Traffic, smog, sweltering heat, the mingled smell of food stalls and sewers—it can be overwhelming. And anyone who rides a tuk-tuk for the first time or gets ripped off by a taxi quickly gets annoyed. "Take it in good spirits" 😄🧘 But as is so often the case: If you only scratch the surface, you'll miss the best.

🍲 Culinary arts between cookshop and culinary delight

I've discovered Bangkok through its culinary side. And I don't mean the hip restaurants with Western menus, but the small, often inconspicuous stalls in side streets. Where locals eat, you often get the best food – fresh, spicy, and surprisingly affordable.

🍜 Tip : A simple Pad Krapao with rice and fried egg can be a culinary highlight – and often costs you less than two francs/euros.

🌆 Experience Bangkok: Culture, Water, Skyscrapers

What I love about Bangkok is the mix:

  • In the morning a temple visit to Wat Pho or Wat Arun

  • Afterwards a boat trip on the Chao Phraya , past old wooden villas and golden roofs

  • And finally, a coffee in one of the many stylish cafes – perhaps in Ari or Thong Lor

🌆🍹 In the evenings, I'm often drawn to one of the sky bars – the view of the skyline at sunset is magical. Afterwards, a good dinner, perhaps live music, or a relaxing drink at a rooftop bar . Bangkok can also be really stylish.

🌃 Tip: If you know locals, ask them to show you a rooftop bar – preferably one that isn't featured on every travel guidebook cover. Away from the typical tourist spots, the atmosphere is often much more relaxed and authentic. Here, you're more likely to meet locals than selfie-posters – and get a completely different perspective on the city.

🧘♂️ Dealing with the "Farang Bonus"

Of course, not everything runs smoothly. As a Western tourist, you're often the target of little tricks; after all, everyone wants a piece of the pie. But honestly:

A friendly "no" is often sufficient, or with a little experience, you can quickly get along. If you consider that many people here are

If you have to get by on 300 francs/euros a month, you see things in a more relaxed way.

I don't take it personally, for me it's just part of the reality of traveling.

Relaxing in the midst of chaos

Despite all the hustle and bustle, Bangkok also has quiet sides:🌿 Parks like Lumphini Park are green oases🧘 Massage studios invite you to relax🛍️ Markets and shopping centers are ideal for strolling – from Chatuchak Market to the modern ICONSIAM

Accommodation

🏨 Whether hotel or apartment, what I can recommend to you from my own use and experience.

SILQ Hotel & Residence Bangkok

🏨 The 5-star hotel

Located on a side street of Soi Sukhumvit 11 (tourist center/Sky Train), if you need a few days in Bangkok – right in the center – I can highly recommend the SILQ Hotel & Residence .

I was there for four nights in early 2025 and was pleasantly surprised. Especially in Asia, 5-star hotels are sometimes relatively affordable, so you can easily afford a relaxing vacation.

🛏️ Beautiful rooms, modern design

The hotel is still fairly new, and it shows. The rooms are super clean, modern, and pleasantly quiet—just what you need after a day in Bangkok. You walk in and immediately think, "I'd love to stay here for a few days."

🏊♂️ Pool & wellness to unwind

The pool area isn't huge, but it's really nicely done—perfect for cooling off or just putting your feet up. There's also a well-equipped gym if you want to work out. What I really loved was the wellness area with a sauna, steam bath, and ice pool , which you can reserve privately . So you really have your peace and quiet—it's a bit of a luxury.

🥐 Picture-perfect breakfast

I got a great deal and booked breakfast right away – honestly, it was almost my highlight. Breakfast is important to me because I'm often out and about during the day and don't eat again until the evening. Everything here was top-notch: fresh fruit, a good selection, great coffee, hot and cold dishes – whether you prefer Asian or Western cuisine. I was truly full and happy afterward.

✅ Conclusion: I will book again

All in all: a top-notch hotel with style, comfort, and really good service. Not overly luxurious, but just right for a few pleasant days in Bangkok. I'll definitely book it again.

Lebua At State Hotel

🛏️ The 5-star Hotel Lebua at State Tower

Old, big, delicious… and with rooftop drama!

If you are ever in Bangkok and fancy a lot of space, a good breakfast and a world-famous view , then definitely check out the 5-star - Lebua at State Tower . I've been there a few times, and even though it's not exactly new anymore, I always feel really comfortable there.

🗺️ Location? Super convenient.

The hotel is located in Bang Rak , so it's quite central and just a few minutes from the river. You can easily walk to the boat or skytrain—perfect if you don't want to be stuck in traffic. For me, it's an ideal base, especially if I want to relax by the water.

🛏️ The rooms: large, older – but fits

Okay, the rooms aren't exactly state-of-the-art; the hotel is definitely a bit dated. But they're huge! And almost all of them have a balcony with a view —that's not a given in Bangkok.

That's enough for me – I'm mostly on the go anyway and just need a clean, large bed and peace and quiet. And that's what I have here.

🥐 Breakfast – the best I’ve ever had in a hotel

Honestly, the breakfast is amazing. There's not just one buffet, but what feels like three:

  • A bread stand with what feels like 30 varieties

  • A grill station where you can have freshly grilled meat or fish

  • Egg station, sushi, salads, desserts, fresh fruit —simply everything. And all by the pool, outside under palm trees—I love it. After breakfast, you'd really need a nap... you're so full.

🍹 Rooftop bar with a film factor

Maybe you know the scene from The Hangover 2 ? That's right: It was filmed on the roof of Lebua . Since then, the Sky Bar has become world-famous – and yes, the view is truly amazing. There are even two bars:

  • One halfway up with a view and a restaurant

  • And the legendary Sky Bar at the top , open, spectacular, sometimes full – but also really special

By the way, as a hotel guest, you have one advantage: You get priority for table reservations. The prices are naturally on the higher side, but honestly: For a view at sunset with a drink in hand? Totally fine.

✅ My conclusion:

The Lebua may not be the most stylish or hippest hotel in the city, but it has something special. Huge rooms, a breakfast that sets standards, a fantastic location, and deluxe rooftop vibes. I'll definitely be back. And if you're ever in Bangkok – treat yourself! 😎

✅ My conclusion: Bangkok is real

Bangkok's "beauty" only becomes apparent at second glance, but the city is authentic, vibrant, and full of contrasts . For me, that's precisely what makes it so appealing; I love coming back again and again. Bangkok is like a good street food dish: not perfect, but full of flavor. Bangkok is constantly evolving; many districts transform in a very short space of time. The beauty, in my opinion, is that the city seems endless. I think you can go back to Bangkok as often as you like; there's always something new to discover.
